Reading Remotely

My Students

I am a special education teacher of seven amazing students, four kindergarteners, two first graders, and one second graders. We are a life skills classroom made up of students with various needs ranging from sensory to medical. My friends have diagnosis' ranging from autism to MD (multiple disabilities).

The majority of the class is made up of students with autism that have very strong sensory needs.

The goal is to involve them in as many activities with their general education peers as possible, including PE, music, lunch, and recess.

My Project

My students rely heavily on packets and activities that can be done with hand over hand assistance from an adult.

The purpose of this project is to provide books that can be sent home with the students to practice reading and comprehension outside of the classroom.

This will benefit both my students who can and those who cannot read yet by increasing the amount of available text at home.

These books have been chosen to line up with the curriculum and lessons that are typically done within the classroom and give the same availability to those at home.
