My Students

My students are 5th graders located in the beautiful, capital city of Charleston, WV. They are eager learners and have hearts of gold. A large majority of the students come from low socioeconomic homes, but that doesn't keep them from being engaged in the classroom.

I feel that the more engaged in learning they are, the more they will enjoy it, and the more they will retain.

These students love cooperative learning and completing projects. They work hard and are always willing to put forth 100% effort. Instilling a strong foundation in education can make a big difference in their successful futures.

My Project

Each year my students complete a project-based learning unit on the Titanic. We incorporate several nonfiction reading activities and chapter books. We are also in need of some new bookshelves for the classroom. As time goes by and we collect more books, space is becoming a little tight.

Reading together has proven to increase understanding and engagement for all students.

I would love to add more class sets to my library. Students look forward to this unit every year and I strive to make it as fun as possible!
