The scholars in my classroom are so fun, energetic, and full of life. My kiddos are three and four year olds, and each has specific learning delays that have brought them together. For my students school is the ONE consistent part of their lives. They come to school and eat lunch and breakfast, have a clean, safe, and welcoming environment, and are free to grow and develop their own personalities, and take ownership of their learning. Due to COVID-19 it has been extremely difficult for my learners.
The students in this classroom may often be looked at as special needs students, but to me, they are extraordinary children who are capable of accomplishing great things!
We have a wide range of learners ranging from non-verbal students to students on varying levels of the autism spectrum. Regardless of those needs, it is our classroom's ideology that all students can and will learn.
Our class is comprised of two girls that are both sassy and sweet, and seven boys! Six of them will be returning in the fall! We spend lots of time reading books, singing songs, exploring outside, playing, and creating art.
My Project
The materials in this project will help my scholars develop an early love of literature. Using these materials I will create and develop meaningful learning opportunities that ignite students curiosity and excitement of books. The props will give students the chance to retell stories and even re-create stories.
Reading is a lifelong skill that can take you any and everywhere, and these materials will help my scholars develop early literacy skills.
I plan to develop a new listening center with the books on CDs. Additionally, the props will help enhance read aloud and small group literacy circles.
