My students need a reading radius interactive learning system and audio cards with CDs.

I teach kindergarten in a very low income area. Over 90% of my students receive free or reduced lunches. Many of my students live with grandparents, great-grandparents, or other extended family members.

I teach in an area where only a few of my students have the opportunity to attend a pre-kindergarten classroom where they can learn the preliteracy skills they need in order to be successful in kindergarten. In kindergarten classrooms today, children are required to move at a much faster pace. They are required to already know their alphabet, alphabet sounds, as well as numbers before entering kindergarten. This becomes a problem for those students who have not been exposed to these preliteracy skills prior to kindergarten.

I would like to add an interactive reading radius to our classroom library. This system will allow my students to be able to gain the literacy skills that they need to be successful in kindergarten. As you know kindergarteners need a lot of teacher interaction in order to understand the material taught. This interactive reading radius will allow my students to interact with the machine as if they are being taught by a teacher. If will lead them through letter recognition, sound recognition, as well as learning short vowel words, rhyming words,and new vocabulary. What a wonderful tool for any student who is struggling to keep up with the demands of kindergarten today. It will also allow those students who are ready for kindergarten to advance into sounding out words as well as learning higher level vocabulary.
