Reading Our Reality: A Need for Multicultural Literature

My students need class sets of 80 high interest, multicultural books.

My Students

My students struggle with reading, and they often have not found books that they can connect with on a personal level.

My students attend a large public school in North Carolina.

Upon entering high school, they took a yearlong reading class to boost their literacy skills. After that first year, they then take English I with me during the fall semester and English II during their second semester to catch up on the credits required for graduation.

My Project

I am requesting books that my students will read as a class under my guidance. These books will change my students' lives for the better by teaching them that literature can showcase characters and situations similar to those encountered in their own lives.

This project will have a broad impact on my students because they will become more engaged in my classroom, they will improve their literacy skills, and they will hopefully go on to become lifelong readers!
