This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 1st grade classroom is full of busy, eager learners. While all of my students come from diverse backgrounds, we learn about and embrace our ethnic and cultural differences to make our learning environment a richer place to engage their inquisitive minds.

Many of my students come from low-income backgrounds and qualify for free lunch; regardless of the challenges they face, they show up each and every day eager to learn!

My students are bright and inquisitive. I'm lucky to have such bright young minds with their millions of questions to answer daily. While they are challenged with learning deficits and attention deficits, they work hard to achieve results.

My Project

My students are growing up in a technology-saturated generation. In order to keep up with helping students explore technology and see it as a tool for learning rather than an electronic babysitter, my students need exposure to various technology pieces during class that they can utilize in an academic fashion.

Amazon Fire Tablets will widen my students' world of reading through a plethora of e-books and audiobooks, providing more high-interest reading material and educational applications focused on improving reading skills.

Students will be able to independent and buddy read with the Fire tablets, as well as use applications to write reviews of their books that they have read to make suggestions to other students in the classroom. This cross-curricular activity will strengthen students' reading and thinking skills. Plus, the freedom of the tablet allows students to take an entire library with them anywhere in the room! This flexibility builds nicely into my student-centered, choice-centered classroom by meeting needs flexibly.
