The magnetic letters and individual whiteboards allow my students to practice identifying letters, connecting letters with sounds, building words, and writing without the pressure of a traditional worksheet. The bear counters give us a concrete way to work on number recognition, counting, one-to-one correspondence, creating sets, and beginning addition and subtraction. Because the materials can be touched, moved, built, erased, and tried again, my students are able to practice foundational skills in ways that are much more accessible and engaging for them.\r\n\r\nThese resources have also allowed me to better individualize instruction for students who are working at very different skill levels. I can use the same materials to practice a single letter or number with one student and then use them for word building or addition with another. The reusable whiteboards have been especially valuable because students can take risks, make mistakes, erase them, and immediately try again. Your support gave us simple tools that we use over and over again to fill important learning gaps, build confidence, and strengthen the foundational literacy and math skills my students will continue to need as they become more independent learners. Thank you for investing in their growth and giving us the materials to meet each student where they are.","fullyFundedDate":1771362972035,"projectUrl":"project/early-intervention-for-the-win/10038914/","projectTitle":"Early Intervention for the Win","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Mansfield","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4373389_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1503867670595","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/bennetta"},{"teacherId":4373389,"projectId":9920512,"letterContent":"The pocket translator from our Connecting Through Language project has helped make communication more immediate and accessible for my multilingual learners. Instead of language becoming a barrier to participating in a lesson, asking a question, understanding a direction, or expressing a need, students have another tool they can use to help bridge the gap between their home language and English. It has been especially helpful during moments when a student understands the concept being taught but may not yet have the English vocabulary to explain what they know. Having quick access to translation has allowed me to clarify directions, introduce new vocabulary, check for understanding, and help students participate more confidently throughout the school day.\r\n\r\nMore importantly, this technology has helped students feel included in the classroom community. Communication affects so much more than academics. It affects friendships, independence, confidence, and a student's ability to feel understood. The translator gives my students an additional way to communicate while they continue developing their English skills, rather than expecting them to wait until their language catches up before they can fully participate. Your support helped us create a classroom where multilingual learners have another tool for making their voices heard, connecting with others, and showing us everything they are capable of learning. Thank you for helping us make communication a bridge instead of a barrier.","fullyFundedDate":1765656348762,"projectUrl":"project/connecting-through-language/9920512/","projectTitle":"Connecting Through Language","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Mansfield","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4373389_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1503867670595","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/bennetta"},{"teacherId":4373389,"projectId":9528819,"letterContent":"These books helped me build a classroom library where more students could see themselves, their feelings, their challenges, and their strengths represented in the stories we read together. Titles such as The Worry Balloon, The Loud Librarian, Mighty Mara, The Unstoppable Jamie, and The Noisy Classroom gave us natural opportunities to talk about topics such as differences, disability, anxiety, confidence, friendship, perseverance, and belonging. Instead of teaching these ideas only through direct lessons, we were able to explore them through characters and situations that students could understand and connect with.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is highly interactive, so these books became much more than stories on a shelf. We paused to look closely at illustrations, identify characters' emotions, answer questions, make predictions, connect events to our own experiences, and talk about how characters solved problems or advocated for themselves. For students who communicate in different ways or need additional support to participate, the pictures and relatable situations also created opportunities to point, choose, respond with visuals, or simply engage alongside their classmates. These books have helped us continue building a classroom community where differences are recognized, respected, and celebrated, and where every student has the opportunity to feel that there is a place for them in the stories we share.","fullyFundedDate":1757266439414,"projectUrl":"project/the-representative-library/9528819/","projectTitle":"The Representative Library","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Mansfield","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4373389_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1503867670595","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/bennetta"},{"teacherId":4373389,"projectId":8383085,"letterContent":"These storytelling puppet sets brought some of our favorite traditional stories to life in a way that was much more accessible and engaging for my students. Using Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and The Three Little Pigs, students were able to see and physically interact with the characters while we read and retold each story. The puppets gave me a concrete way to teach important early literacy skills such as identifying characters and settings, answering who, what, and where questions, sequencing events, and understanding what happened first, next, and last.\r\n\r\nThe sets were especially valuable because they gave students many different ways to participate, including students with limited verbal language or significant learning needs. Students could point to or choose a character, act out part of the story, match a puppet to an event, or use the characters to demonstrate their understanding without needing to give a lengthy verbal response. They also made repeated readings feel new and exciting, which allowed us to practice the same comprehension and communication skills again and again without losing student interest. These materials helped transform story time from simply listening to a book into an interactive literacy experience where every student had an opportunity to participate and show what they knew.","fullyFundedDate":1723689166370,"projectUrl":"project/fairytale-theatrics/8383085/","projectTitle":"Fairytale Theatrics","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Mansfield","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4373389_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1503867670595","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/bennetta"},{"teacherId":4373389,"projectId":7723111,"letterContent":"These math materials made a meaningful difference in the way I was able to present new concepts to my students. Many of my learners benefit from seeing, touching, and physically manipulating materials rather than relying only on paper-and-pencil instruction. The magnetic base-ten blocks, money, fraction pieces, and coordinate grid allowed me to turn abstract math skills into something concrete and visual. Students could build numbers, compare quantities, explore place value, practice identifying and using money, work with parts of a whole, and participate in lessons at the board instead of simply watching me demonstrate.\r\n\r\nThese resources also helped me create more opportunities for active participation and individualized instruction. I was able to model skills for the whole group and then use the same materials during small-group and one-on-one practice, adjusting the level of support for each student. The large, colorful pieces were especially helpful for students who needed clear visual models or had difficulty working with smaller manipulatives. Because of this project, math became more interactive, accessible, and meaningful for my students, and I gained tools that I can continue using across many different skills and ability levels for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1694436217455,"projectUrl":"project/supersize-my-math/7723111/","projectTitle":"Supersize My Math!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Mansfield","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4373389_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1503867670595","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/bennetta"},{"teacherId":4373389,"projectId":7194887,"letterContent":"These books gave me the opportunity to continue learning outside of the school day and deepen my understanding of how to support students with a wide range of developmental, behavioral, communication, and learning needs. I was able to study practical strategies related to Applied Behavior Analysis, positive behavior support, communication and language development, life skills, and effective instruction for students with Down syndrome and other significant disabilities. Having these resources available allowed me to look more closely at the reasons behind student behavior, think more intentionally about how skills are taught, and better understand how to meet students at their individual developmental levels.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, I was able to take what I learned and begin applying it directly in my classroom. The strategies helped me become more thoughtful about breaking skills into manageable steps, using reinforcement effectively, supporting functional communication, teaching replacement behaviors, and creating opportunities for students to build greater independence. They also gave me new ideas for adapting instruction and daily routines so that students with significant support needs could participate more meaningfully and experience success.
