Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students come from inner-city Meridian. Many can’t afford school supplies and new backpacks, etc. My school has become a whole arts school so we need supplies to make learning more fun and project-based.

With these products, I want to create a safe and engaging learning environment for my students.

I want my students to take pride in their classroom and feel welcome. My students oftentimes have to be the parent and adult when they leave school. I want my classroom to be a place where they can relax and get lost in a good book. To let the book take them away from their every day hard lives and transfer them to a magical place.

My Project

Students will use this area to read accelerated reader books, as well as use dry erase boards and markers to write out the central ideas of the stories and themes they discover. The students will have bean bag chairs in this area and share stories with one another.

Students will be able to absorb themselves into bean bag chairs and new adventures that will jump off the page at them.

Students will use this area to escape reality, while also building their literacy skills. I want my students to feel safe, relaxed, and open their minds to new adventures and new ideas brought to them in their reading.
