Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach second grade ELL Collaborative in an inner city Title l school. I have 26 students in my classroom. My school services children that live in an area called "the projects." They come from the poorest section of the city. In a school of approximately 650 students, 95% of them receive free breakfast and lunch.

My students are eager to learn and excited to come to school each day.

They have many needs so I try to make our classroom a safe, comfortable environment where they can feel welcome and loved. My students are so grateful for everything that is done for them or given to them. My ELL students are eager to learn while my general education students are eager to assist in their learning. My students need every tool and strategy I can come up with to assist them in learning English. It is very important for all of them to feel successful!

Currently, we are in desperate need of a rug for our reading nook. We have the perfect spot in our classroom for a reading nook, however, the children must sit on the cold floor.

My Project

My students love to partner read so they need a comfortable place to sit together. We have the perfect spot in our classroom but the floor is cold. We are requesting a carpet and some floor seats that will give my students a more comfortable place to read.

This project will significantly help my students with reading fluency.

The more a student reads the more fluent they become. The children love to read together, so having a place to sit quietly with a friend will be so wonderful. A carpet will be perfect to complete our reading nook. Also, floor seat can be used through out the classroom.
