Reading Music With Recorders and Ukuleles

Help me give my students a recorder to play, to practice reading music, and add a few ukuleles to our class set for chord-playing practice.

My Project

My 4th graders have been working hard learning to read the letter names of the treble clef staff and now we need recorders to put those skills to use. Putting a recorder in the hands of each 4th grader is a great way for students to practice their music reading skills from the notes of the staff and rhythms to practicing other skills like playing with a group and using their ears to play in tune.

I teach at a rural school that is full of great hardworking kids who will enjoy these instruments.

My 5th graders have also been learning to read the treble clef staff but they will be starting to learn ukuleles. The two ukuleles will be a great addition to our class set for us to share. Ukuleles are an exciting way to introduce students to stringed instruments and chord reading and playing. Students not only learn to read and play chords, but they can learn to play melodies through tablature. This skill could be enjoyed on the ukulele or transferred to the guitar to be enjoyed their whole life.

I teach at a rural school that is full of great hardworking kids who will enjoy these instruments.
