Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My first grade classroom is made up of about 20-24 amazing and energetic students! We are an extremely diverse classroom and always have a lot to teach one another. My students try their best every day and I try my best to provide them with the best learning environment that I can. My goal is to make sure that they love coming to school, and that they foster a love for learning that will remain with them for the rest of their lives!

We love celebrating our differences and learning about our individual uniqueness!

Our classroom is part of an Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) classroom, and students with disabilities who receive Integrated Co-Teaching services are educated with age appropriate peers in the general education classroom. Almost 10% of our students are English language learners and 33% are students with disabilities. Almost half of our students stay in after-school until after 5 PM each day while their parents work. We are also a Title I school on the Lower East Side of Manhattan and all of our students qualify for free or reduced price school lunch. Despite the many challenges my students face, they always come to school and try their best!

My Project

Being able to incorporate technology into the classroom is critical today so that students can learn how to use devices they will use the rest of their lives! By having Chromebooks in our room, students will be able to access reading programs (such as Raz-Kids) to grow as readers, learn how to type up writing projects to grow as writers, and play math games to grow as mathematicians!

By exposing students to technology from a young age, it will not only be easier for them to use in the future, but they will feel more comfortable using it!

Instruction will also be able to be differentiated, as students will be able to read books geared towards their reading level, allowing them to feel comfortable as they learn and grow as readers! Additionally, any math games played will be geared towards their math skill level, also making sure the subject-matter is challenging them to grow as a learner, but not challenging them to make learning no longer be fun!
