My Students
Our school is located in Harlem and serves a predominantly African American and Hispanic population. Although most of our students enter first grade reading far below grade level, they usually make great strides in reading progress with a whole school literacy focus.
I teach at a Title I School in NYC where 100% of our children receive free breakfast and lunch.
Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn. Many of them want to be the first in their families to go to college.
My Project
An excellent classroom library will always help to build reading skills in every classroom. My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy- I read on the carpet with them and I also use the smart board to read with them. My students also like to choose books from the library to read independently. Every book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care. My students are grateful for the opportunities to read them. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind.
