My Students
My first grade class is comprised of 24 amazing students, most of whom come from bilingual homes and receive free lunch. This is an ICT class with the majority of students working below their grade level.
My hope is that by the end of the school year they will be able to read and also their computation skills will be on grade level.
I would like to give my students the chance to gain the skills for the next grade.
My Project
"I can't find any books on my level", is a constant cry I hear from my first Grade students every day. This has really bothered me a lot. I tried to supplement the shortage by buying books with my own money but unfortunately this is not enough. I face an uphill battle to get my students to be able to read at their grade level. For the majority of them, books are usually not on the shopping list and it will be a great accomplishment to give each student a book to take home every night with much needed help.
