My Students

First grade students love reading independently and listening to read alouds. They are inquisitive and are motivated to read.

Reading is the key to success!

My school is located in a small community of a metropolitan area in my state. The majority of the students receive free or reduced price lunch. They don't always have the best home lives or opportunities to have access to a variety of books at home. The students at my school love to read. First graders are like sponges that absorb information.

My Project

The age appropriate books will be used in literacy centers and independent reading time. Each day, students have designated times where they are read to, read with, and where they read independently. Through these resources, my students would have additional choices during independent reading and literacy centers.

This project will make a difference in my classroom by expanding the variety of choices available to my students.

With your help, my students will be able to choose new and exciting books. They will also meet their individual reading goals and increase their vocabulary. Their knowledge will increase and I will not have to spend as much time searching for additional resources for my classroom. It will change their lives because they will have more opportunities to do what they enjoy- reading! The more they read, the more they will feel like leaders in our classroom and in the community!
