My Students

As Nelson Mandela once said, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." I teach fabulous fourth graders in an inner city school. My diverse population of students come from a low-income, high poverty district. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of our students have experienced trauma in their life.

Despite many hardships, my students come to school every day ready and eager to learn.

It is important that my students are engaged and excited about learning! They want to be in school because they want to learn so they can be successful in life.

My Project

The more time spent on reading, the better reader a student will become. My students need to read a variety of texts to help them become fluent readers. Scholastic magazines have interesting articles that engage and motivate students to learn.

I want to provide my students with quality texts to help improve their academic skills.

Scholastic magazines offer articles that will do just that. Scholastic News provides students with information about current events. This year my students’ read about new artifacts from an ancient shipwreck found off the coast of Greece, how you may be fined if you text while crossing the street in Hawaii, and new clues about how the Great Pyramid in Egypt was built. Science Spin will increase their knowledge about scientific breakthroughs. The curriculum provides access to videos to build background knowledge, and interesting science and engineering articles.
