My students are eager to learn! Many of them are struggling due to COVID-19, school closures, and virtual learning. I currently have half my class learning below level. They are working hard to learn and catch up. Daily they are spending time with targeted skills to help them overcome the gap created by this pandemic.
Even though the pandemic has caused a deficit in my students reading ability, my class is always ready to read and practice their reading stamina!
My students are struggling to read on a first grade level but work hard every day to grow and learn. They love center time with different activities geared to what they need to know.
My Project
To help my students learn amid the pandemic, I would use resources geared toward phonemic awareness, phonics, sight words, and reading. Many of my students are struggling due to the pandemic in these areas. These activities will help individual students during our daily five rotations and reinforce what each student specifically needs. The leveled books will meet students right where they are in their learning, while helping them to bridge the gap due to the pandemic. School closures and virtual learning has caused my students to fall behind in all areas of reading.
Each student will benefit from extended practice, using these resources, in phonemic awareness, phonics, sight words, and reading!
My students love centers during daily five and these activities will provide a variety but also a targeted focus during our learning each day. During our Response to Intervention small groups, these resources will be used to meet each groups specific deficits. Half of my class is currently below benchmark in reading and these resources would be used daily to help them catch up. My goal is to provide resources and targeted instruction to help each student be fluent in all skills related to reading and to gain what has been lost during the pandemic.
