Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach first grade in a Title 1 school in Nevada. I work in a low income school with a large Spanish speaking population. I have the joy of working with 18 young children who come to school every day with excitement and eagerness to learn.

My students are only six and seven years old, but they love to read! There is nothing better than watching a young child who is eager to learn, open a new book for the first time. The excitement on their faces is so rewarding. The problem I am facing in my classroom is providing my students with leveled books that can improve their reading and language skills.

I would like a leveled reading library for my classroom. I know my students would benefit from having a library that was equipped with a book for every reader in my class. I can only imagine how successful they would feel if they could go into our classroom library and choose a book that really was the "perfect fit" book. Additionally, I would like a a complete set of books bags so my students can check out books and take them home to practice reading.

I know your donation and support will make choosing a book in our classroom library much easier and more exciting. Your help will ensure student progress and the rewards will be priceless. Not only will we have collaborated and worked together to foster great readers, but we will ultimately be shaping successful global citizens. At the end of every reading lesson I remind my students that reading is FUNdamental! Thank you for your help.
