This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work with some wonderful 1st grade special education students. We are part of a larger school that helps all children to become proficient in his or her academics. I teach within a team of five first grade general education teachers. As my students make gains in my classroom, they begin to try small chunks of the day with their typically developing peers. My classroom is to help students build reading, writing and math skills. The work we do in this classroom is building relationships, staying with the group, following directions, and accessing general education content in different ways. We celebrate little wins together each day.

My Project

These books hold the key to a new journey or adventure for my new amazing readers! Sadly many of my students don't have reading materials in their homes. A classroom is a place where students are able to choose a book from our library to read. I also have a sign-out sheet for students to bring a book home for the night. These books will also be used in small guided reading groups. At this time my classroom has a limited about of books for the students to choose from. With more choices for them to choose from, they will have a wonderful opportunity to expand his or her literacy skills.
