My Students

I teach Kindergarten at a Title I school. My students are all capable and competent when given the love, support, and strategies they need to learn I love to see the "light bulb" moments and the excitement they share when they are proud and confident in what they have learned. Many of our students come from economically disadvantaged families and receive free and reduced lunch.

Regardless of where students come from, they can ALL be successful when given the correct tool kit to succeed.

My Project

I will be implementing Ortan Gillingham this year to help my students become confident and fluent readers. Kindergarten students learn best when taught with the Orton Gillingham based reading intervention.

Orton Gillingham is an individualized, multi-sensory, structured approach that helps students learn to read.

It is a positive way to teach print concepts, phonological awareness, phonics, and word recognition along with automaticity.

The materials that I have chosen will allow my students to touch, feel, trace and learn their letters and sound in a fun way. I have also included notebooks for organization and assessment purposes, to help me differentiate my lessons and monitor their growth.
