I co-teach an inclusion class consisting of 48 5th graders. The range of the students' learning abilities varies from Pre-K to 9th grade. I would like to challenge the students to learn from each other.
One of our goals is to create a safe learning environment where the students will feel as if they are part of a community where they play a major role.
They will be provided with the opportunity to collaborate with one another through reading novels.
Providing our class with sets of novels will allow the students to read and participate in reading discussions. Students will be able to choose a book and discuss the contents of the book with their peers. They will be able to collaborate on group projects and present their recommendations of their book to their classmates.
Reading is exercise for your mind!
Being able to choose from a wide variety of grade appropriate books will give students a sense of ownership. My goal is promote and enhance their love of reading not only in my classroom, but for the rest of their lives.
