My students need a larger variety of texts for our classroom library. In class we took a survey on the different authors and titles of books they would love to have apart of our classroom library.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students reside in Riviera Beach, FL. My students are bright and have a beautiful future ahead of them. Each day I learn more about them and truly enjoy helping them grow. We teach our students, starting in kindergarten, to become college ready! I would love to see my students become college graduates and live successful lives one day. I have always told each child who walks into my classroom, “the biggest gift you can give me as your teacher is an invitation to your college graduation in the years to come!"
My Project
Reading is a major part of our day our school. Building the love of reading is the most important task before digging deeper into reading strategies and skills. My students this year have definitely built the love and enjoyment of reading. Over the past few weeks they have asked for certain texts, either by a particular author, series or a favorite title. I combined the request and put together a survey for my students to choose the top book sets for our class. With the books they have requested I can ensure they are able to read books on their level but also read books they enjoy.
