Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school is in a lower-income area, where not all students have the same opportunities or supplies. I try to provide my students with the extras at school.

In order for our students to reach the national average, we teachers have to work twice as hard because they come to us extremely low at the beginning of their education.

After twenty-one years teaching kindergarten, I was switched to second grade and 7 years later a combo for 1st and 2nd graders. I lack enough appropriate reading materials. I don't have a classroom library that meets my student's needs. I am now in my twenty-eighth year of teaching, still building a library suitable for my students.

My students are very inquisitive and are ready to read. They love to look through books and begin to read chapter books. Unfortunately, many of my students come from low-income homes and don't have books to read at home. They rely on a classroom library. My classroom becomes the only place to find a book of interest. Unfortunately, I do not have enough level-one books in my classroom library to meet my students' needs. I need books that will help continue to build my English and English learner students to become 21st-century learners and help STEM. I appreciate your help.
