My 16 second grade students love learning! They come in excited every day to learn and grow!
My students come from an urban, underprivileged community but in our school, we are rich in love and kindness.
At home they face all types of obstacles, but when they come into my classroom I do everything possible to show them love. I want to instill in them that they are amazing!
My students are going to prove to the world that they are more than just a statistic! My students radiate joy and are so excited for their futures. We have a classroom full of future doctors, athletes, teachers, musicians, artists, mothers, and fathers.
My Project
I would love to give my struggling readers brand new books that will get them excited to read. This year, my big push is not only for my students to improve their reading levels to get to state standards but to get them to love reading. Growing up, I was always found with a book in my hand, and loved the way that books could transport you to a different place and time. I want my students to experience this all well.
Unfortunately, it is very difficult to get them excited when they have already read all the books available to them on their reading level, and these books are old and torn.
I would love to see the look on their face when they get brand new spotless and shiny books! I took a poll of the class, to see what books they would like the most, and added those to this list. I also would love for them to get some different seating options so they are not always forced to be sitting and reading in a desk! Thank you for making this dream come to life!
