This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are a bright, vibrant, and active group. Being in a low income/priority school and many coming from single/parent homes, they face many challenges outside of the classroom. However, they never fail to put their best foot forward, entering class with a smile on their faces. They love to interact with one another, move, and do hands on activities. I am looking to provide these children with experiences they may not receive elsewhere. We're ready to make the change!
My Project
Many of my students come from low income homes with large families. They don't always have a rich literature at home or have someone to read with. Providing these books to our classroom will help students engage in learning, provided ELA in math, and get kids to apply math skills outside of our lessons. Many of these books provided real life examples of how math is part of our every day lives. My students enjoy reading, listening to stories, and laughing. We are a lovable bunch that wants to get the most out of our days in school. With these books, students will not only be learning real life math skills, but will also be able to practice reading since they don't always get the opportunity outside of school.
