This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
All of the students I work with are from low-income families. My students come to school every day ready to learn and work.
The children often come to school with different emotions.
Sometimes they're happy and sometimes they're sad. Either way, I acknowledge their feelings. The children enjoy story time, singing, counting, writing/drawing, dancing and playing instruments. Their favorite time of the day is play time with the teachers and their friends. This allows the children to explore, create, build, socialize and ask questions.
The students gain responsibility and leadership when their daily job is posted with their picture. They like to help clean the tables, hold the door, be a 5-minute helper and carry the balls outsides. The children also know the routine and the rules. They feel safe in their classroom environment knowing the teacher is there for support and supervision.
My Project
My children love reading books, they picture read to their stuffed animals, they read to each other and the teachers. This Read and Relax Comfy Couch will bring reading time to life. This will be a change for the children environment now that they will be able to sit high on a couch.
The children will enjoy choosing the books from the baskets underneath the couch and picking their books of choice.
The basket will also help the children to sort an organize the book into a designated spot in the classroom. Our book area will be more cozy and inviting for the children when the new couch arrive.
The Magnetiles will help our children enhance their geometry and building skills. The children will be able to create their own creation while they move and change the shapes. Magnet tiles will bring great conversations among the child and teacher which will promote language.
