My school is a K-8 option school in our urban district that parents choose for their children. As an alternative school, we attract students with a wide array of learning styles, interests, and backgrounds. I have many students who are diagnosed with learning disabilities, Autism-Spectrum Disorder, Sensory Processing Disorder, and ADHD.
I teach an enthusiastic and curious group of third graders.
Watching them succeed and become confident learners and people inspires me to find ways to support them. I want to give them fun ways to practice all the new skills they are learning.
My Project
My students love to play games with one another and are actively engaged when doing so. Games are a great way to motivate even my most reluctant learners!
These reading comprehension games will be one of several stations that my students rotate through each week.
They will also be practicing typing skills and sharing their learning with their families during “Stations.” Because my students will be actively engaged and working independently, I will be able to teach small groups of readers during this time, focusing on their individual needs. This is crucial, especially for the children that need extra support.
