This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are high school students in a low-income community that face challenges every day of their lives. Even though they face life challenges they always come to class and greet me with a smile. One of the challenges that they face is the inability to read. This group of students needs high-interest, low Lexile books that will ignite the joy of reading that will last a lifetime, build comprehension skills and open their minds to investigate and explore the written word. These books will be read together and discussed to bring a deeper understanding and appreciation of the written word.
