Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are not only learning the language in my class, but also cultural activities. Some of my students have not yet discovered the language books that capture their imaginations.
My high school students are a diverse group of adolescents.
I teach students who are from different countries and cultures. The students are between the ages of 13-18 years old. These students interact with each other because they have mutual respect and appreciate the diversity we have at this school. These students are fun, silly and sometimes frustrating but overall, they want to receive a good education and pursue a higher learning.
We are a Title I funded school because 78.3% of the students are socioeconomically disadvantaged and 59% of the students receive free lunches every day.
My Project
My students want to learn not only the language, they want more. They want to know about their food, their culture, their history. They want to learn about what make the Spanish speaking countries so special. The books are not only to transport them to this new adventure, they will help engage them in cultures of fun. My students need 45 copies of a book entitled, Agentes secretos y el mural de Piccaso, to improve literacy in Spanish; and DVDs of movies to hear the target language.
They will get involved with stories that help them to be fluent in the target language.
They will also connect the stories with other stories. They will analyze the stories behind the author's mind. It will be a fun adventure for all my students and me as their teacher. The parents and the community will see the differences in the way they will express themselves and talk about what we are doing in class. They will incorporate and motivate others to get engage in their own adventure.
