These materials have helped make therapy more engaging and have given me additional ways to practice skills in a structured but student-friendly format.\r\n\r\nI was also able to purchase functional life-skills materials designed for my older high school students who are preparing for greater independence and the transition into adulthood. These lessons target practical communication and language skills such as reading appointment cards, ordering food at a restaurant, understanding and using money, and navigating other everyday situations. Having access to these resources has helped me create therapy activities that are not only educational, but also meaningful and relevant to my students' lives outside of school. Students have been eager to explore the AAC system, find familiar words and messages, and use it to interact with teachers and peers. Seeing a student independently select a message to communicate something they want or need is an especially rewarding moment.\r\n\r\nThe iPad has been particularly meaningful for students who previously relied heavily on adults to interpret their communication. With consistent access to AAC, they are gaining confidence and independence while learning that their words and ideas matter. We will continue modeling language on the device, expanding vocabulary, and creating opportunities for students to use AAC throughout the school day. The area rug, lamp, salt lamp, slime, and fidgets have helped us create a comfortable, engaging space where students can practice descriptive language while working toward their individual speech and language goals.\r\n\r\nOne of our favorite activities has been using these new materials to encourage students to describe what they see, feel, and experience. Students practiced using adjectives and descriptive words to talk about the soft area rug, the brightness and color of the lamps, and the texture and sensory experience of the slime. The fidgets also gave students opportunities to describe their characteristics, movements, and how they felt while using them. These everyday materials became tools for expanding vocabulary, forming longer sentences, answering questions, and expressing ideas.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the new materials, they were excited and eager to explore them. The sensory items, especially the slime and fidgets, immediately captured their attention and encouraged conversation. What was especially wonderful was seeing students who may sometimes need extra encouragement to communicate become excited to describe what they were seeing, touching, and doing.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue building on these experiences by using the materials during structured speech and language activities as well as student-led conversations. We will work on expanding descriptive vocabulary, comparing and contrasting objects, following directions, answering WH-questions, and creating increasingly detailed sentences and stories. These resources have helped turn our classroom into an inviting space where communication feels natural, motivating, and fun.\r\n\r\nWe are so grateful to our donors for helping make these moments possible. The iPad has been a good reinforcer for students to work for (i.e., drawing, using YouTube, playing games, etc.) \r\n\r\nThe mouth model has been utilized with my articulation students who are learning how to properly produce their target speech sounds.
