Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Teaching in a high-poverty district has quite a few challenges. From large class sizes to not having enough classroom materials for everyone, the students face many obstacles. It is my job to ensure that they don't feel the impact of being in a low-income district. That can sometimes be a hard task.
Above it all, my kiddos strive to do their best and are the entire reason I am passionate about teaching.
Without their positive energy every single day, I would find it difficult to do what I do. They make it all possible. I want to give back to them and make sure they have above the very basics of a classroom. I want them to be able to have luxuries other districts may have. I want to keep their positive spirit alive and ensure they love coming to school, keep learning, and keep growing as individuals. It is hard to do this as one person, but as a community of giving and thoughtful individuals who want to invest in the education of our kids, it is an easier task.
My Project
I have a class called Reading for Success. This class uses a program called READ 180. It is an excellent program that helps improve student reading scores, builds student confidence in reading and writing, and increases student's test scores at the end of the year.
While this is an excellent program, it can be tough to motivate students to stay engaged with it.
That is where I need your help! To keep this program engaging for students, I'd love to build a prize box just for them! When students complete a book test on a completed novel and score a 70% or higher, I'd have them pick out a prize from the prize box! When students complete a segment on the software, they'd also get a prize! This would help motivate them to stick with the program and ensure that their reading and writing ability improve.
