My students are high school students who have a cognitive impairment. Most of my students are functioning academically at a kindergarten through fifth grade level. They struggle with basic everyday skills such as telling time, reading, and working with money, as well as basic life skills such as cooking, cleaning, and making good social decisions as well as organization.
My students are excellent workers in spite of their disabilities and refuse to settle for nothing but the best.
They want to learn as much as they possible can and strive to be just like every other high school student.
The reading materials will provide me away to help my lower readers learn the reading skills necessary for successful independent living as well as survival skills. It is essential that my students learn the skills necessary to navigate in the real world to help them become more independent as well as successful learners.
Many of my students are frustrated because they struggle with reading.
They know how important it is for them especially when going to the store, traveling in their community and for employment and independent living. These materials will help them with the skills as well as knowledge.
