Reading for Independence: Books About the American Revolution

My students need books about the American Revolution at a variety of reading levels.

This project expired on February 14, 2018.

My Students

"Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time." (Thomas Edison) In my classroom we learn to problem solve and work as a team. My students are super improvers who don't give up!

Our school was recently named the only STEM-focused elementary school in our district, with a special emphasis on engineering.Over 400 students walk through our doors each morning eager to learn.

We incorporate the engineering design process and computer science into everything that we do. As a staff, our goal is to make the engineering design process and future jobs in STEM fields accessible to all children. We strive for excellence in providing each student with a twenty-first century education.

Your donation will help provide my students with the materials to help us to incorporate STEM areas into everything that we do. We are not a Title I funded school, so we do not receive many of the resources that other schools may have.

My Project

How did America become an independent nation? What makes the birth of America unique? These are just a few of the questions that my students wonder about the American Revolution. These books will help to answer my students questions while they gain knowledge and understanding of this period in history. The books will provide background knowledge for further research and discussion, as well as practice with nonfiction reading skills, research practices, and informational writing using the information gleamed from these texts.

These books will help bring the American Revolution to life for my students.

It will be the first time that they study the people, events, and circumstances that lead to the birth of America in depth. I hope that the texts will inspire my students to learn more and eventually teach others about this important time in our nation's history. It will help them to consider how these events and people still influence our lives today.
