My students need books for a leveled library and an iPad to use for AR comprehension tests.

My Students

Our school is located in a small town. We are a Title I school and the majority of the population is living in poverty. During my time at my school, I have experienced a lot of generosity.

Although the community understands the importance of education, they often times are unable to purchase the required supplies.

I believe some of these basic supplies such as books and technology devices would greatly enrich the learning experience for my students.

Despite the financial shortcomings of our small community my students are fighters and through their determination have grown by leaps and bounds each year.

My Project

My first grade students are becoming excellent readers and learning to read for the love of reading. We have fostered the growth of this love for reading through the competition of earning Accelerated Reader points.

My students are running out of books to read in our very small, inadequate classroom library and we do not have enough electronic devices to take our Accelerated Reader quizzes on.

These students are so thirsty for more books to read and more opportunities to learn through reading. I am so proud of how far they have come and cannot wait to see how much they will grow when given the opportunity to do so.

I am asking for non fiction and fiction books on multiple reading levels. This will allow my students to be able to pick a book at a reading level they can easily understand when reading independently. I also asked for several different main characters that my students enjoy reading about. I have found that having books on topics that interests my students is one of the most influential factors in motivating them to read. I also asked for one Chromebook and one iPad so that my students will be able to take comprehension quizzes on the books they read through a computer program my district already has in place. At this time, my students do not have enough devices for multiple students to take quizzes at the same time. This significantly slows the process of my class reading and earning points. I believe if my students were supplied with additional books, they will grow through their love of reading!
