My students need new and exciting books on their own levels. Each book will be leveled in the colored containers so they know how to pick their books on their levels.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
It's time for recess and all of my kids got up to play with their friends except one. He sat at his desk reading "The Diary of a Wimpy Kid." I asked him why he didn't want to play and he simply replied, "I rather read." I want to encourage every student in my class to be this excited about reading.
Welcome to my second grade classroom where my hard working students work very hard every day to become life long learners.
My students come from an urban, low income school where many of them struggle with reading. They do not have books at home to read for fun, or they see the same, worn out books over and over again. At such a young and impressionable age, I want to get new books and supplies to motivate and excite my students about reading. Responding to the books with writing is also another goal I have for my students.
My Project
I plan on creating a more inviting reading nook that my students can go and enjoy books on their level. The books I picked can be leveled to each of my students' reading needs. Students' reading levels are color coded to match the bins so they can choose a book they can read and not just look at the pictures! To get the students excited about writing, I will let them choose a writing prompt to respond to their book in creative ways.
Books that my students can use to read for fun are very limited in our school.
Much of what they have is from the reading series or printed off the computer. These books, along with their fun new reading nook, will motivate my students to read and give them a positive outlook on a subject that they struggle with most.
