My Students

My students are a diverse group of kids living in Brooklyn, NY that strive to succeed. They speak many different languages and come from various cultures and countries, some even new to the country just learning the language. This year I will be teaching in an Integrated learning classroom, which means there will be two teachers and half the class will be special education students and the other half are general education students. We will also have many students that are new to the country and just learning English. They all come from various socioeconomic backgrounds, but most come from low income households. My students range in all levels of learning. My school is a wonderful community of different learners that all work together to do their best. My students are always eager to come to school and learn new things, even in this new world of education. Keeping them safe and educated is my biggest concern.

My Project

We are a 4th grade ICT class. This means half our class have IEPs. Many of our students are not reading at a 4th grade level. Unfortunately we do not have enough books at these student's levels. Students who read between levels A-K need to have at least 10 books each in their reading book baggies.

This year more than ever students are struggling to read at the level they should be.

It is up to us to make sure these kids get all the books they need to help them move up in reading levels. The more they read, the better their fluency and comprehension will increase. These books we are asking for will help us reach our goal.
