Help me give my students classic books to read for pleasure and to refine their reading skills. My class consists of many different reading levels, so I like to choose books that all can enjoy.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a sixth grade teacher who is strongly trying to create a love of reading in my students. My class is a great group of kids who come to school every day despite the fact that a lot of them do not have support or guidance at home from a loving environment. My kids are all wonderful people who are eager to learn. I feel that creating a love of reading in my students, at this point in their lives, will basically be a gift that they will have for the rest of their lives.
My Project
These books will be part of our read aloud collection. We take turns reading a page or so aloud in class and then we discus the book as we read. Reading aloud help my many different learners keep up with the story as opposed to them reading it solely on their own. For example, reading out loud and discussing the book better enables my English Language Learners to understand the content of the book. In addition, for those of my kids who are below grade level in reading, it also allows them to follow along as well. The kids enjoy reading out loud to the class and most will ask to read first.
