My students need reading comprehension reinforcement activity books, dry erase markers, a 3-hole puncher, and a new electric pencil sharpener.
My students know how to read. Now they need to practice reading with understanding. They also need to be able to sharpen their pencils as quickly as possible so they can get back to classwork. My students are seeking to read with more understanding not just sounding out words.
My students are inquisitive and fast learners.
They love to learn new things, read interesting stories, and write about them. We are in a predominantly high-poverty neighborhood. The requested supplies are necessary to supplement the learning materials available in the classroom.
My students need reading comprehension reinforcement activity books, dry erase markers, a 3-hole puncher, and a new electric pencil sharpener. Reading comprehension skills like making inferences, finding the main idea, and making comparisons and contrasts are higher-order thinking skills that my students are anxious to perfect. The requested materials will help support reading instruction. My students all know how to read, they just need more support in developing more of the higher-order thinking skills in reading.
It is so important to be able to provide additional support for students who need scaffolding as they go from learning to read to reading to learn.
The ultimate goal of reading is to spark interest, gain knowledge, and understand what you are reading. Reading is not just being able to sound out words.
