Help me give my students exciting things to do and to read. This is my second year as a classroom as a teacher. My students want to learn and read so much.

My Students

My students live in a generally rural county and not many resources are provided for them to learn about the world. Many of them might not ever leave the area. My class loves reading new and exciting books. They get excited when we talk about current events, history and science. I can only teach them so much. My students would love access to kid-friendly historical accounts, science books, current events, and chapter books that inspire them to write as well as the authors do. Unfortunately, I can't provide all of that from my own pocket.

I am asked so many questions about history, science and how the world works.

My students need answers that do not just come from me; they need answers that come from a book they are reading. My students need to know that books can answer all the questions they have, and more. I have such curious minds in my class. I would love to spend hours talking through every question they have, but I do not have the time, and they need to know that they can find the answers on their own. Independence is such a valuable thing to learn.

My Project

My students have so many questions, and they often look to me for answers because we do not have access to kid-friendly material besides their out of date text books and the occasional Scholastic News.

The internet is a valuable resource, but I would like them to know that reading can give them answers to the many questions they have.

we will be researching Animals, places, and historical figures. They will have to write an informative piece on a African American historical figure. I want them to have tangible access to information.

These books will go a long way in helping them do their research. The pictures and words will be a lot easier to navigate than the world-wide web. A lot of my students get lost trying to google information. I am hoping these books will help. The books will help them understand what a source of information is outside of the internet and a textbook.
