Reading Detectives

My students need books at their instructional levels to coincide with the reader's workshop books they are using in the regular education classroom, such as the Mercy Watson series.

My Students

We are a top performing school in our state due to the fantastic teachers who challenge students to meet rigorous academic standards. However, some students need additional support.

My classroom provides a safe learning environment for Tier 3 students in grades 5K through fourth grade.

My students come from different ethnic backgrounds, different learning environments and some speak different languages at home. The students enter my classroom with different skill sets and require additional or unique instructional strategies beyond those typically available.

My Project

My students are not only word detectives, but they are also learning to use clues in reading to help them solve mysteries. The students will enjoy reading about Hamster Holmes, Cam Jansen, and Nate the Great. The mystery of going to a new land will be uncovered in The Long Way Westward and The Long Way to a New Land. What are Mercy Watson and Mac and Cheese up to? Only my students will find out when they read these new books!

The students will be able to participate in the units of study their classmates are doing with texts at their reading level.
