My students need a listening center. This will include a boom box, headphones (with a jackbox so multiple students can listen), and sets of read-along books.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Motivate these young minds by giving them the gift of words. Most of us can't remember what it was like before we could read. These kids kids need help opening the door to the world of literature. They await your kindness to help them get there!
My students come from a rough area.
They live in the worst part of our city. Many struggle with poverty and hunger. Most of the kids come from broken homes or even foster homes. They have hard lives already and they are only 6 years old.
Our school has become the light of their world. While others are telling these kids they will never amount to anything, our school tells them to put their heads up high because education and motivation will make them leaders. We tell them how much worth they hold, and we teach them to set high goals for themselves.
My Project
This learning center will be a great asset to our classroom. Students at this age are struggling to understand the concept of words and sentences. Having a center where they can read along with an audio book will give them the opportunity to create familiarity with commonly printed words. Also, most of these students have never been read to outside of their experience at our school. Most of their parents are either not around or working. A reading and listening center will give them the opportunity to hear literature far more often. This will help expand their vocabulary and expand their minds.
Literacy is a major issue in our country and across the world.
Statistically, my students are some of the least likely in our nation to become literate and highly educated. Give these students a fighting chance by turning them on to reading.
