Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are in need of a variety of ways to support emergent reading skills. Listening to stories is one of many ways to support them.
I teach Kindergarten in a low economic neighborhood in California.
My students are a busy,curious group, soaking up all of the information in our curriculum like "little sponges". Many of them come from single parent homes and do not receive a great deal of educational support, for a variety of reasons
They are an enjoyable class to teach, and I feel very fortunate this year!
My Project
The resources I have requested are sets of Cd's for the listening center in our classroom. The center is set up so that 4 students at a time listen to the same story with headphones. Each student is provided with a book and there are signals to tell them when to turn the pages.
Kindergarten has become very academic and not necessarily developmentally appropriate for many of the students-some of whom have just turned 5 years old.
It's important that I provide differentiated learning experiences to support their emergent reading skills. Listening to stories is one of the ways I will be able to provide this support if I have CD's of good childrens' literature to enhance their learning with the use of our listening center.
