Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Kindergarten is an amazing grade! It is a foundation for years to come. I want my students to learn everything their little minds can absorb and to also develop a love for learning. I want my students to enjoy coming to school and have fun while learning!
My students are amazing.
I have not met this years class yet, as school has not started for us but I know I will have an amazing group of students. I teach in an urban school district, in which most of my students come from a low income family. Many of my students have their own struggles at home but still come to school with a positive and smiling attitude. Whenever I talk about my class, I refer to them as "my kids" and people who overhear me will say things like, "Oh I didn't know you had kids" and I think that is very ironic. I always say, "Yes, I have kids, 25 of them actually." My students become my kids for the year and for some of my students I am like a mother to them. I want to give them everything they deserve, like a great education because they deserve that regardless of their economical status. Please help my determined students reach their full potential.
My Project
By providing a listening center and starter books in my classroom, my students will be able to listen to stories which will help them with their reading skills. In Kindergarten, students are learning to read. They are learning the reading foundations; like fluency, tone, expression, and reading comprehension. Being able to listen to a story is a privilege for some of my students. Some of my students come to Kindergarten and have never been read to at home due to language barriers and parental lack of reading abilities. Being able to hear voice changes, fluency, and expression will help them become excellent readers! Students will also be able to follow along as a story is being read to them. It will help them with one to one matching and tracking print. I will use the listening center during center time and for early finishers.

Donations to this project will help my students succeed as readers and will be enjoyable for my students. I have a few books on CDs and they absolutely love listening to them. It keeps them interested and engaged. This donation will help my students develop a love for reading and learning!
