Reading Buddies & Sadness Squeezers

Help me give my students reading buddies! These little stuffed animals can be adopted by students when they agree to read to them 20 minutes each day!

My Students

My students are amazing, incredible, resilient, and kindhearted. They are in kindergarten through fifth grade. They work hard and try their best!

While many students live in poverty or with relatives while in transition or even in shelters, they all offer so much beauty and light to the world.

Our families come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and histories; however, these families do the very best possible for their children. It is an honor to work with these families and children.

My Project

Help students learn to care and have a commitment to a "pet" and grow their reading skills when they read each day! When a student adopts a pet, they make the commitment to read a book with their little buddy each day. Books are available in our school library, in classroom libraries, or at the public library. Adoption cards give this information to families.

Some animals will be reserved as sadness squeezers-- little buddies to visit our class with students on sad days.

Students squeeze their sadness into these buddies, allowing them to focus on work. If needed, the student returns to me at the end of the day to talk about the sadness and how the squeezer helped!
