Help students learn to care and have a commitment to a "pet" and grow their reading skills when they read each day! When a student adopts a pet, they make the commitment to read a book with their little buddy each day. Books are available in our school library, in classroom libraries, or at the public library. Adoption cards give this information to families. Some animals will be reserved as sadness squeezers-- little buddies to visit our class with students on sad days. Students squeeze their sadness into these buddies, allowing them to focus on work. If needed, the student returns to me at the end of the day to talk about the sadness and how the squeezer helped!
