The students at my school are from a rural farm community. We have a small school at the edge of a large corporation. Our students come from all socioeconomic backgrounds. We are lucky to have great families that work hard and are involved in our school events, but we don't get a lot of extra funding from the state. This is due to our school not qualifying as a Title I school. Title I schools have a higher level of free and reduced-price lunches than we currently have.
My sweet kiddos are hard workers, but they have lots of extra energy and thrive during hands-on activities.
We try to keep moving around our classroom several times throughout the day to help with this. I also have tried to incorporate a flexible seating environment to keep their little bodies wiggling, while engaged in learning, while at our seats. We have had a lot of success when we use hands-on manipulatives and activities.
I love to provide learning opportunities that will get my students moving, thinking, and stimulating their learning by creating.
My Project
Unfortunately, during these difficult times my sweet kindergarten students had their first year of school cut short. We were not ready to for that to happen, but our students safety comes first. We have jumped into the world of remote learning and are doing it best to make it work. My Littles don't quite understand what is going on in our world and all they know is that they are missing their friends, our school classroom, and our routine. I would love to be able to give each of them a Build-A-Bear stuffed animal of their choice! These gift cards will allow me to let them pick out their special friend. I will then order all the animals and arrange for pick-up or delivery of each animal to my sweet kiddos.
I am in hopes that these special furry friends will bring comfort, companionship, and a great buddy to cuddle and read too during this unprecedented time in our world.
Several of our daily activities involve students reading to a furry a friend and completing an activity in our learning packets, so what a wonderful surprise it would be for them to get their very own handpicked furry friend! The social and emotional aspect of this project will hopefully bring them a sense of peace and comfort during their remote learning journey that we have all been thrown into.
