My Students

If you were ever a struggling reader growing up, then you remember that awful feeling when you heard your peers reading and you could not make sense of the words on the pages in front of you. My students need this assisstive technology to help them hear, read, and enjoy reading.

My class is made up of 19 students who love to learn!

We are located in a small working class community in Anne Arundel County MD. My students range from above average intelligence to students who receive special education services. With such a diverse group of learners I am always trying to come up with new ways to keep them actively engaged and meet their individual learning needs.

My Project

I am requesting a Nook Color e-reader to use with my students who are currently unable to read independently. The Nook color has an amazing selection of children's books with Read To Me technology. This allows students to see the words and hear them as they read a book. My goal is to eventually have enough Nooks to have a small group of children be able to use the e-readers at the same time. This Nook will allow a struggling reader to feel successful in their learning. It will also help them learn new words and eventually they will be able to read without the stories being read to them.

This Nook Color will really open up the world or reading to a child that right now feels like it is the hardest thing in the world.

A nook color will make reading fun, engaging, and educational to all of the students who get to use it in my class. One small device will make the world a different place for these children.
