Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My third grade students were dynamic readers and writers prior to our remote learning circumstances. They attended a Title I elementary school located in the city of La Puente, California. Approximately, 90% of my students are socioeconomically disadvantaged. Many of the students are English Language Learners (ELLs) with various academic needs. They have hard-working parents who want the best for them and a better future. Unfortunately, their parents don't have the means to provide their children with books and supplies needed to continue their enthusiasm for reading and writing. Although my students have been provided with a Chromebook from the school, remote learning has still been a challenging learning experience for them.
My third grade students miss having access to a variety of reading books and their writing notebooks.
Distance learning has stopped the momentum we had created in becoming life long readers and writers. Providing my students with books and writing tools would help them get back on track.
My Project
The items from this project will provide my students with tools they can use to help them write and read while we continue to be in distance learning. The writing notebook, pens, and crayons will help them write and illustrate narratives and reports. The books will help reignite the love for reading my students had prior to distance learning.
My students miss holding real books in their hands and a pen to express their thoughts.
