Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title I campus. My students are an incredible group of Kindergarteners. They are full of energy and are excited to come to school. The challenge for me is to create the kind of classroom experience for my students that allows them to keep that excitement about being at school.
My students are movers and shakers!
It takes a lot some days to keep them focused on learning. I know that with the right tools in my classroom, I will be able to keep my students on track and learning.
My Project
Kindergarteners are very hands-on when it comes to learning anything. I can tell them about a number or a letter, but until they have a way to interact with that concept it isn't going to stick in their minds.
The supplies I have requested will all be used as part of math and language arts stations.
My students will be practicing skills like letter building and recognition with the learning letters activities and magnetic learning letters. The language folder games and teaching tubs will help my students learn the sounds that letters make and how those sounds work together to make words. The Getting Ready to Write Gumball Grab will help my students develop their handwriting by building their grip strength and showing them in a game how to hold their pencil correctly. My students will get to practice making words using the letter stamps and stamp pads, giving them one more way to interact with letters and words.
I have requested number, coin, and pattern block magnets for my students to use on the large magnetic board in our classroom. These supplies will help my students with so many of their math skills like number identification, counting, addition, subtraction, knowing their coins, and geometry. Students will also get to practice their new math skills using the math folder games. Students will get to practice writing their numbers using the magnetic learning numbers. The Snap and Slide number Bonds will give my students one more way to learn and practice addition and subtraction.
It is my hope that with these supplies my students will have more varied opportunities to make what they are learning stick in their mind.
