My students attend a school that is at maximum capacity in a low-income part of our city. Many of my students do not own a book, and had not been read to before they started school. The first few days of school, I told my students that we had to practice reading so we could be Super Readers. One of my students told me that he did not think he could ever read at all, and he would never be a super reader. Several others in my class said they thought the same thing.
