My Students
My students are from the Antelope Valley and range in learning levels. Though some struggle in reading , they never give up the opportunity to grab a book during silent reading time. They have learned that a growth mindset is what will help them along their academic journey.
"Success is no accident.
It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do." ~Pele
These students live in a low socioeconomic area, and many resources are not at arm's reach. They make-do with what is given to them. But they deserve more. They honestly deserve it all. With their hard work and determination I know they are capable of anything.
My Project
I want my students to explore historical fiction literature. Together we will read and analyze the book, Number the Stars. Number the Stars is a work of historical fiction by American author Lois Lowry about the escape of a Jewish family from Copenhagen, Denmark during World War II. Through this book we will not only explore a genre in literature they have not encountered but also historical events.
My students are also in high need of headphones in the classroom.
They use these for their Chromebooks. Headphones allow for students to focus on their tests or online lessons without the distraction of other computer noises.
